Infineon and LS ELECTRIC Partner to Develop High-Efficiency DC Power Infrastructure for AI Data Centers and Future Grids

Jul 14,2026

July 13, 2026 – Infineon Technologies AG and LS ELECTRIC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop advanced direct current (DC) power infrastructure solutions designed for AI data centers and next-generation power grids. The collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of highly efficient DC power systems that can meet the increasing energy demands of digital infrastructure while supporting the evolution of modern electrical networks.

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, the growing power requirements of AI data centers, and the continuous development of digital infrastructure are driving demand for more efficient power distribution technologies. At the same time, electric grids are becoming increasingly decentralized and complex, creating greater opportunities for DC-based power architectures. By combining their expertise, Infineon and LS ELECTRIC plan to develop key technologies that enhance energy efficiency, system performance, and scalability for future power infrastructure.

"The rising demand for electricity, particularly from AI data centers, is transforming how power is generated, distributed, and consumed," said Andreas Weisl, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer for Industrial & Infrastructure at Infineon Technologies. "High-efficiency DC architectures will play a vital role in meeting future energy requirements while improving overall system performance and sustainability. By combining Infineon's semiconductor expertise with LS ELECTRIC's strengths in system integration, we can accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation DC power infrastructure."

Ahn Ki-young, Vice President and Head of Production and R&D at LS ELECTRIC, added, "As AI data centers and next-generation power networks continue to expand, efficient DC power technology is becoming increasingly important. Through our collaboration with Infineon, a global leader in power semiconductor technology, we will strengthen our competitiveness in core DC infrastructure solutions and further position ourselves as a comprehensive solution provider for the global AI data center and future energy markets."

The partnership will focus on several critical DC power infrastructure technologies, including power conversion systems for energy storage systems (ESS), solid-state transformers (SSTs), and solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs). Compared with conventional copper-and-iron transformers, SSTs use advanced semiconductor-based power conversion technology to reduce both size and weight by up to 30% while delivering higher operating efficiency. SSCBs, which combine power semiconductors with intelligent control algorithms, provide rapid protection against short circuits and overload conditions by interrupting current within microseconds, significantly improving system reliability and protection. These semiconductor-based technologies are becoming increasingly essential in high-density power environments such as AI data centers, where greater efficiency, reliability, and performance are critical.

Under the terms of the agreement, Infineon will contribute its comprehensive portfolio of power semiconductors, microcontrollers, and power control solutions to support the development of high-performance, energy-efficient DC power infrastructure. LS ELECTRIC will leverage its extensive expertise in electrical systems and industrial automation to drive system-level integration and deployment. Together, the two companies will align their technology roadmaps and collaborate on joint development activities to capitalize on the growing opportunities within the next generation of energy infrastructure.
